2012 Judges:

Marcus England

Marcus is an ornithologist and Vice President of Bloom Biological. Marcus has worked with US Military bases in managing the endangered bird species on their bases such as the California Gnatcatcher and perils faced by California condors released into the wild at Tejon Ranch.

He conducted biological fieldwork and acted as teaching assistant for avian ecology and tropical ecology courses during the summers of 1995 and 1996 at La Suerta Biological Station, Costa Rica.

He was Head ornithologist from 1998-2000 at Lamanai Field Research Center in Orange Walk, Belize. Research included line transects, point counts and constant effort mist netting. This work fundamentally changed our understanding of bird distributions in north-central Belize. Conducted additional fieldwork during this period at Las Cuevas Biological Station in the Chiquibul National Forest. Also assisted on a large-scale US Environmental Protection Agency funded study on toxic contaminants in endangered Morelet’s crocodiles. He has also studied birds in Guatemala, Trinidad & Tobago, Brazil, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.


Bob Gino

Bob Gino is owner of the Orlando Art Gallery in Los Angeles. The Orlando was one of the oldest and respected operating galleries in the Southern California area running for over 55 years. Popular Southern California artists such as Susan Clover, Don Lagerberg, Ken Gilliland and others called the Orlando their home. It finally closed it's doors 2011 due to the recession.

Garry George

Garry is the Policy & Chapter Outreach Chairman for Audubon California. Garry has been a long-time birder and member of the Board of Audubon California. Currently, he is involved in helping California and businesses chose bird-safe renewable energy sources and helping move forward the "Audubon at Home" program which encourages gardeners to plant native species and create bird-safe gardens.

Stewart McSherry

Stewart is the Chief Executive Officer of Greenworks (aka X-Frog) which creates high quality 3D plant models. He also was the Artist in Residence at ZKM Media Institute Karlsruhe, Germany and at ART + COM.

Rules:

1.  Imagery must contain a visible and discernible Songbird ReMix bird product (See acceptable list of products). Imagery to be submitted may be still or animated.  Any 2D or 3D Software may be used. The size of the still imagery should be no smaller than 800 x 600 pixels and no larger than 2000 x 2000 pixels and saved in .jpg format. Animation entries should be posted on YouTube and a link to the animation provided on the Contest Entry form.

2a. One entry submission per entrant... however... You may enter two pieces, if one of them is animation and the other is a "still" image. 

2b. Animated pieces: if over 5 animated pieces are entered, a separate animation judging will be conducted with separate prizes.  5 entrants- 1 prize award; 7 entrants- 2 prize awards; 10 entrants of more entrants-3 prize awards.

3. You may enter a piece that has been posted elsewhere (such another forum, contest, etc). You may not enter a piece which has been previously entered in this contest (such last last years' or the 2009 Open Rendering Season Contest).

4. Images may contain nudity, however, remember judging will be partially focusing on the use of the Songbird ReMix package. The winning entries will be selected by a Judging Panel - The Panel's decision is final. Judges will perform independent reviews of the submissions. The Judges (and Ken) may not submit entries.

5. The finished products must be solely the creation by the entrant . All artists agree, by entering this contest, to allow Ken Gilliland to use their entries to promote future contests held and to display the result of this contest. The Artist will remain the intellectual property holder of their entry images. Image and animation will not be used for any commercial purpose without the express written consent of the artist.

6. Entries will be accepted after January 2, 2012. All entries must submitted by March 1st, 2012, 11:59pm PST. Any entries submitted after that date will not be considered. Award winners will be announced March 15th. Prize Winners must supply their real names, email addresses, and mailing addresses for prize distribution. Monetary amount of "Shopping Spree" can only be used at the Songbird ReMix Merchandise Store (Ken's CafePress and RedBubble stores).  Unused amounts of "Shopping Spree" prize are considered non-redeemable.
