SBRM Yucatan Moving Towards to Completion

Ken's been steadily working on Songbird ReMix Yucatan (Birds of Central America) and is expected to complete the package by Christmas.  From there, he'll move to the creation of a standalone Aracari (aka Toucan) and Mayan ruins. Some crystal skulls might also be in the works to tie in the packages with "Indiana Jones of the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull". These latest packages are expected to be released late January.

Pictured is the showy Black-throated Magpie-Jay. For more Sneak Peaks: Go to the SBRM Library and scroll down the left menu until you see Central America. (about 2/3 the way down) Every bird in this section will be included in the Yucatan Package (and yes, the Military Macaw, has been added to the Yucatan list)

"Open Rendering Season" 2008 announced

Last year, Songbird Remix central sponsored a contest specifically for Songbird ReMix users. This contest was design to encourage artists to do more bird art.  It still seems like a good idea so the 2008 "Open Rendering Season" Contest will start January 1st and will be accepting entries through March 1st, 2008. Complete rules are available on Contest Page. Judges and prizes are still being finalized, but some of last years' distinguished judge panel will be back and I hope to get Greenworks Software (xfrog) to contribute some prizes this year.

Real Birds: Christmas Bird Count
Help Track Bird Species Declines

The 107th Christmas Bird Count summary issue of American Birds went to press in October, with articles including the release of the 2007 WatchList and a feature by Scott Weidensaul on how Christmas Bird Count results may help us track birds as they respond to global climate change. Other features highlight unique experiences and sightings during CBCs in Iowa and Ohio, as well as how CBC data help our understanding of the status of introduced doves in Florida. Additionally, as is the tradition the complete overall and Regional Summaries from all areas are included, with many photos submitted by compilers and participants.
