Found in Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador (unconfirmed but likely as a breeding species), French Guiana, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. '''Status:''' Not Threatened but is very sensitive to disturbances in habitat. '''Diet:''' Insects. '''Nesting:''' Clay nest is constructed with a cover, and up to six pale blue, greenish or white eggs are laid. '''Cool Facts:''' Call is a sharp, explosive “sweek!” or “skweek”. The Song is a descending and slowing series of 3 to 9 or more rich plaintive notes, “squee squee”. Leaftossers fall in the “Ovenbird” classification which get its’ name from the elaborate vaguely "oven-like" clay nests built by some species of horneros, although most other ovenbirds build stick nests or nest in tunnels or clefts in rock.
